Sun Jan 07, 2007 10:09 pm   How did you spend your Sunday

We had been going to the church that we used to belong to when we lived here before. We had gone to that church from 1987 to June, 1994 when we left to go to Arizona. Than when we would come back we would visit that church. Sometime last year the church changed names which we didn't realize until our son moved down here and they started to go there. There has been major changes in the church including losing alot of the members although we have enjoyed it.

We decided this morning that we were going to try a new church. We know a lot of people who are now going to this church. Ironically we didn't get to see the people that we know except for the massage therapist who is at our Chiropractor's office and is also Jewish the same as we are but we fell in love with the church. We knew the church was very big but didn't realize that they have so much going on all the time. They have a Bible study by Beth Moore, Precepts by Kay Arthur, and tons of other things. They even have a over 50+ group that hubby and I are going to go to next Sunday as well as home fellowship groups.

The funniest thing was when I was reading where the home fellowships were .... we found one really close to us that we will probably go to, also found that people from our old church are now home fellowship leaders at this church but than when I looked at the Spanish home fellowship I couldn't believe it .... The couple who host it have the same last name as my husband's mother's maiden name and it is not a common name at all. They are probably related. Fred will have to call them as I won't go to that home fellowship since it is all in Spanish.

Jo,

It sounds like you are quite happy with your visit to the new church.

We've been attending the home church of my husband -- the one that he went to as a teenager. I really love the pastor there. He's an older fellow -- so meek & gentle...and yet, not afraid to "step on your toes" while he preaches. -- We all need that. He has a great sense of humor too, that makes the service even more enjoyable. All the members are really nice.

Our afternoon hasn't been as quite as quiet as other Sunday afternoon's --a few unexpected interruptions -- but I'm so thankful that God has brought us to Kansas...and all is well.

Rhonda, we really did enjoy the visit to the new church. I have a feeling that we can become very active there which is something that we like.

Sounds like a great church Jo. I need to find a new one. I love my church, but it is small and has issues a lot. That gets old, but I love my friends there. So I don't know what to do for the most part! I skipped today. Just needed a break!

We did some shopping... a lot actaully! I am working on some goals and a speech tonight. That's it for me

Chris, that is how we felt about the old church even with all the changes. We still loved the church and the old friends that we had there. We are looking forward to the new church though and we do know quite a few people who go there as well.

Jo,

It looks like you found a perfect fit. Is it also closer than before?

Chris,
What type of speach are you writting? Do you do alot of public speaking?

Joyfully,

The new church is probably about the same distance as the old church is so that is not bad.

We went to Mass sunday morning and then to brunch....after we got home I decided to reorganize all my bookmarks to various websites online and got that in order. Did my laundry and some cleaning and Sam went to the grocery store for me.

We then had some lazy R&R time late last night and watched the movie Munich (spelling) which we really liked!

We attend my father's church. My father was very active before he became too sick to go. My brother and his family also started attending. The pastor is great and the congregation really pulls together. It's comforting to have such support.

It sounds like you'll get to know so many wonderful people. :D

Rosalie, that is great that your brother and his family are now attending the same church as you and your family. Our dearest friends here have their entire family attending the same congregation. It is so cute as both mother-in-laws are now widowed and go together and sit together and the granddaughter and her son also attend.

We are going to try one of the home fellowships tomorrow night. It is only 5 minutes from the house so that is great. The nights are not usually good for hubby wiht his M.S and Neuropathy. I don't drive but this is close enough that I can go even if for some reason he doesn't.

I miss the home fellowships myself. The woman and her daughter who hosted the fellowships began having health problems and they stopped. At least at the church, there is a fellowship before worship or sometimes afterward depending on what works best for everyone's schedule.

It's great you found a place so close to fellowship. It'll also be easier for your husband to commute to on nights he is not too uncomfortable.

Carla,
I am writing a speech for a speaking engagement on Friday for the Chamber of Commerce. Actually I do speak several times a yr as I am the president of a Charity locally called Soroptimist International of Atwater. Soroptimist is an International 501(c)3 that has chapters throughout America and the world. Atwater is the town I live in. So yes, I speak alot... at least 2-3 times a month during meetings anyway LOL

Rosalie, that is what hubby and I were talking about last night. We were supposed to go to a meeting last night that is about 40 minutes from us and hubby was hurting so bad that we couldn't make it. We have home fellowship tonight and with it only 5 minutes from the house, he will be able to go.

Well we have kinda become churchless.

Long story, short form, When I was struggling (back) pre and post surgery and unable to attend we listened to our service on the radio. That option is no longer available and due to lack of contact with others we no longer feel connected.
and now
Since being re-employed I now work every Sunday.

Count it a priviledge to be able to attend and enjoy for those of us who cannot.

B.

That's too bad B.

Our church has services on Thursday evenings at 6 for those unable to attend on Sundays.

I like the listening to radio services but I can understand the lack of connection. :(
