What is the best way to advertise on the web? Does adsense work? How do some make so much and others make nothing?

As far as advertising on the web: Article marketing, Email marketing (your own confirmed optin list, or advertising in another website newsletter) and Viral marketing with offering free reports and excellent content can be some of the best free and low cost advertising. Advertising with google adwords and other ppc advertising networks can be a great option, but you really need to know what you're doing first or your funds can be quickly depleted. Simply do some research and study before engaging in any costly advertising.

There can be many factors that make a difference between making money or not making money with Google adsense. I think the two main factors are: #1 - Not enough traffic to the site to make any difference. #2 The website covers too broad of a subject. If you site isn't founded on a main niche, your google adsense will pick up all kinds of strange keywords and thus, a lot of the google ads may not target the specific interest of your website visitors.

as wahmannounce said i feel article marketing is more effective. It worked for me too in a great way.
