Well,
I wish we could catch all those "internet trouble causers" out there who create all these viruses and spyware...grrrrrr :x (I wasn't sure what to call them in a polite way :? )
I've been battling away with some parasites that found their way to my system. I backed up all my files last week...so just a gentle reminder to all my fellow wahms to back up files if you haven't done so recently. You never know what can hit you even when you think you have your computer protected.
Here's a link that I'd like to share for removing trojan horse and adware. It really helped me today because the one or two systems I was using just wasn't doing the job to get rid of the adware:

thank you for the help and warning.
Yes unfortuantely it is all too easy to end up with troubles.
The other thing is to clean regularly, time can pass quickly and it may seem like just last week when really its been a long time.
Anything I can set to auto I do and then I also manually cleanse.
Take Care

| Wed Sep 27, 2006 7:57 pm How to back up hard drive |
|
|
this post is very timely. Just yesterday I got a notice from my internet server email that I had a trojan proxy server as my email account was sending out tons of email. I didn't open the attachment because I was afraid that was how I would actually end up with a trojan proxy server but I am getting a bunch of spam email now which for about a year I have never received any at all. So now I'm suspicious.
Two things though 1. I hope I can figure out and understand the solution ! and 2. how do you back up your hard drive??? |

Cynthia,
Did you get your problem resolved? I would start by running your antivirus program a couple of times. I use AVG from http://grisoft.com which is free for personal use.
Here a link for steps on backing up through windows xp:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/security/learnmore/backup.mspx
However, I would not recommend doing a full backup now if you feel that you do have a virus because you might save some of those malicious files on your back up disks. I would just do a basic back up on all your important files that you have saved like word documents, images, your website files, etc. You computer probably came with the basic backup disks to create a fresh new start. Try to concentrate first on removing any bad parasites before you do a complete system restore.
I'm still having some problems here with my system, and tried to actually do a full system restore this morning, and it seems like there is a problem in my system that even prevented me from doing that. I couldn't even connect to the internet until I reinstalled my modem... So, just to let everyone know, "If you don't see me around for a few days, you'll know I'm in recovery trying to get this mess straightened out. :? " |
