Fri Sep 29, 2006 6:05 pm   Question about Blogs

I started a blog, and I was wondering if the content can be searched from google or other search engines. So if I have written something about being at home with the kids and someone looks googles it will it come up?
I am using blogger.com

Thanks,
Chantel

Chantel,

I visted our blog -- and love the clean layout.

To answer your question...
A blog is similar to a website. People sometimes believe if you build a website they will come. However, that just doesn't happen on its own usually.

Using blogger gives you some advantage...and that is blogger has a high page rank. I often see blogs from there turn up in a high position in search engine searches; however, this also depends on your content, keywords within your blog, how frequent you post, etc.

You need to create an rss feed for your blog (perhaps blogger comes with one already?) I chose to create mine manually through Ice Rocket -- Here's my recent post about that: http://wahm.forumwise.com/wahm-thread606.html

Then do your homework by submitting your rss feed url to rss feed directories. The search engines use these to pick up on fresh new content faster. Newspapers and Magazines are catching on to this trend as well and use feeds to submit their new content.

The good thing about that is you can also create a list of subscribers with your feed through http://feedblitz.com/ - I use the free version and it allows subscribers to automatically receive your fresh content via email each day or however often you post. There's also a feature in your feed blitz control panel that allows you to send out a news alert - allowing you to personally email your subscribers, in other words.

I am in the process of submitting my brand new blog ( http://momsdailydose.com ) to blog directories. Many internet surfers will use blog directories if they are intersted in looking for a bunch of blogs on a certain topic that interests them. You'll be missing out on a great opportunity if you don't use the advantage of submitting to blog directories. It also provides more links to your blog giving you a higher page rank as well.

We are unfortunately confronted with "splogs now", which are spam blogs -- so the search engines try to determine the value of blogs by the number of subscribers they have. Spamming blogs, of course, will not have subscribers -- people just don't care for them. They find blatant advertising repulsive. So, you can see the value of trying to create a subscriber list through blogging services. http://bloglines.com is also a good one to include on your blog. Subscribers to your blog will be detected through their site as well.

I hope I have been of a little help to you...to at least get you started.

I just read this article on some plugins for those who use Word Press and thought I would share it here:

Rhonda White - your post about submitting blogs to blog directories - which directories are you talking about? Any you can share? I have 3 blogs and am trying to "get them out there". Also, you menioned the RSS feed thing - so far i have asked (elsewhere ) and can't get a straight answer on what is rss feed? Can you explain? What do you do with the url and where do you put it or use it? Thanks so much!

Hi,

You can search on google or search engines for content but you get the exact meaning and can rewrite in your own phrase or rephrase it. :flower:
