Does any one use craigs list for advertising? If so, do you have any tips to share?

I did a blitz on Craig's list and only got one call from days of individual posts to 65 cities. You have to make each post different or you get an error message. It was maddening trying to say the same things over and over again in different ways. I haven't had the time to do it again and I'm not sure I even want to. Take care and God bless.

Carla,

I've used Craig's list. They seem to get really good traffic. And it really helps with "local advertising". However, there's alot of competition. So, yes, you need to have very good ad copies. And like Gazelle said, you have to vary your posts.

The best way to use your online advertising in this manner is to gather leads rather than hoping to get sales. So, if you can set up a special lead page to gather email addresses of those "interested" in your offer, you'll be able to get your info in front of them again and again...providing, of course, you do it in the right manner.

Thanks for your responses.

I made an html announcement for someone who sold products and she posted it on craigs list and did very well. I was looking for feed back and how to suggestions to pass on to others because i have never tried craigs list.

Thanks for the feed back it really helped.

Joyfully,

Hi Sandy,

NO question is a dumb question.

If you do a yahoo (or google) search for craigs list you will find a website set up to advertise everything. Jobs, apartments, dogs....

It is catagorized by area( state, city) and then by topics so you can search things that are local to you. There are a lot of ads there as well. I have on been on it maybe twice myself when i was lookiing for something. So i am not an expert by any means.

I hope this helps

www.craigslist.org

On the right hand side you'll find the list of cities that have their own community within Craig's List. Just a little warning about CL. If you are not a complete liberal, use caution in the chat/conversation areas. Most people participating are very liberal. Participants can also be downright rude. I'm not saying liberals are rude, not at all, but Craig Listers get tired of the spammers and trolls and are very quick to point out the inappropriateness of a post. Do not post ads in the chat type areas. Do not post anything that could even look like an ad or ask a question that looks like an ad. They will flag you.

According to Craig's List rules you can only post one ad in one city at a time. Otherwise it is viewed as spamming. That's why error messages are received when the ad is the same or similar and posted more than once.

It depends on the city, but typically your ad will be listed for 7 days and then removed from the system automatically. If people see your ad more than once, it is possible that they will flag it as spam. If it gets flagged a few times, it will be removed from the system.

I know someone who flags his competitor's ads so that they are deleted. :( It's awful and I know he'd be MAD if someone did that to him.

Rhonda makes a great point in that it is better to gather leads as far as a home biz goes. Unless you have a product or service that people are in need of NOW they most likely won't act. I think you'll get more results trying to gather leads.

Wow!

I too didnt know about CL, not sure that it is something I would even attempt to use but am glad to have learned something new.

There is so much out there, it can be a little too much to learn quickly.

Thank you everyone for your willingness to share your knowledge.

Gratefully appreciated.

B.

I get most of my trafic to my website from craigslist. I absolutely love the site. You can post more than once if you have more than one email address. the key also is to post consisitently. I spend about 45 minutes 3 times a week posting on craigslist using different ads that I cut and paste from a word document. really easy - getting all the ad written is the hard part! but once you have it done, cutting and pasting is a snap. Rewrofd one ad and change it around a little and you won't get the error message. I have been using craigslist for years now, for selling stuff and renting an apartment - long before I started my home business.

There is alot of competition, but there is also a TON of people that view craigslist every day -much more than other smaller free advertising sites. And I have found the people who use craigslist and come to me from there are of a better quality than from other sites - I hope that does not sound bad, but what I mean is they are legitimately looking for what I have to offer and not just fishing around.

I honestly don't know where I would be with out craigslist. I do use other free advertising and message boards and belong to several networking groups which work well for me. But Craigslist by far has brought me the most traffic and also the most business.

Christine :)

Your ads can contain HTML, Craig's List just doesn't provide an HTML editor. If you know HTML, you can include it in your postings.

Yes, you can post to CL multiple times using different email addresses, but if you want to be in compliance with the rules of the site and community, you'll post only once during the allowed time period. There are always ways around rules so it just depends on how you feel about it.

Thank you so much ladies for your posts. Maybe i will look into it more.

Christina,

How do you add the html code? Is it fairly simple if there is not a html editor? just cut and paste?

That would be good to know

Sure, you can cute and paste from somewhere else. If you don't know any HTML a good cheat sheet site is http://www.webmonkey.com . They have a list of common HTML codes and how to use them. :D
