Hi...

I'm curious, does your company charge the hostess tax on her FREE products that she earns for hosting? I noticed recently that a jewelry company charges tax on the free jewelry and they have a really great host program...20 to 40% FREE. I wondered about those who host a show because they can not afford anything and want it FREE. I have hosted a couple of different parties and never paid tax (only on my actual purchase), so I'm wondering what the norm is.

Thanks!

I am a consultant for a jewelry company that charges tax and shipping on the hostess free items. The way I see it is that you pay taxes on items that you win on a game show, so what is the difference in paying sales tax on jewelry that you have earned. Same concept if you get a bonus from work, that is free money to you, but you have to pay taxes on it.

I am not sure if it is standard or not, as I have never had any other shows in my home except for the jewelry.
